According to recent research, job vacancies in the hotel sector increased almost 200 per cent between 2013 and 2017.

Here at Three Q, we’ve noticed an increase in vacancies for hotel chefs, bartenders, waiters, receptionists, porters, cocktail mixologists and concierges.

Vacancies for hotel chefs have increased by 149 per cent over the five-year period, making it a great time for chefs to transition to working in a hotel. Hotel bartending, mixologist and concierge vacancies have risen by 80 per cent in 2017 compared to 2016. Vacancies for hotel receptionists experienced similar strong growth, rising by 260 percent in the period 2013-2017 and by 44 percent from 2016 to 2017. Hotel porter jobs vacancies increased by 58 percent from 2016 to 2017, and concierge jobs vacancies by 80 percent.

Ireland’s hotel sector has shown remarkable resilience over the past few years during the economic crises. Despite a reliance on British visitors for revenue, the year 2016 proved to be a turning point for the sector, thanks to rising numbers of tourists from the rest of Europe, North America and Asia. There are plenty of shortages in the skills that jobs such as hotel chefs as the industry is on the rise again. If skills shortages are left unaddressed, the growth of Ireland’s tourism industry will be stunted, so employers are really on the hunt for all sorts of hotel staff.  The hospitality sector is worth an estimated €7.2 billion to the Irish economy and supports around 235,000 jobs in the country.
