General Porter Job in Dublin 1

Position: General Porter
Hourly Pay: €15.90/hour (+ Double Pay on Sundays & Bank Holidays)
Location: Dublin 1

We are hiring a General Porter in Dublin 1 to join our hardworking team. This position offers the chance to play a vital role in the day-to-day operation of a healthcare facility, with working hours ranging between 7 am and 7 pm.

The role involves a wide variety of tasks, including maintaining buildings and grounds, handling waste management, supporting departments, and assisting with moving patients to and from scheduled appointments and meetings.

Key Responsibilities;
The General Porter will ensure the smooth running of healthcare operations, with responsibilities including:

  • Replace light bulbs and safely reset fuses/circuit breakers.
  • Perform minor general repairs to flooring, walls, ceilings, and vinyl coverings.
  • Assist other trades or technical personnel with ad hoc maintenance work.
  • Transport goods and materials as needed across the facility.
  • Carry out minor preventative maintenance tasks and assist craftsmen when required.
  • Install and repair road signs on the property.
  • Work closely with different departments to move patients to and from scheduled appointments and meetings safely and efficiently.
  • Collect, transport, and store waste in designated areas, including clinical waste, general refuse, and special waste.
  • Adhere to infection control and waste management policies.
  • Repair items such as beds, chairs, sockets, and door handles.
  • Maintain extraction and ventilation systems and ensure equipment is kept in good working condition.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of consumables and record usage where necessary.
  • Test and maintain the generator and boiler systems to ensure they are functional in case of emergencies.
  • Power wash paths, buildings, and roadways.
  • Assess and repair blocked drains, clean gutters, and external signage.
  • Address issues related to heating, ventilation, and lighting systems.
  • Perform seasonal upkeep such as winter gritting and hedge trimming.
  • Maintain landscaped areas with weed control and grass cutting.
  • Make minor repairs to doors, windows, locks, and skirting boards.
  • Assemble or take down shelving as required.
  • Support theatre departments with the safe attachment or removal of positioning devices for equipment (training provided).
  • Liaise with external contractors involved in building renovation or maintenance projects.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety protocols and infection control policies at all times.
  • Complete mandatory checks, such as Legionella prevention flushing and hygiene standards.
  • This fast-paced role demands a proactive approach, versatility, and attention to detail. No two days will be the same, making it both diverse and rewarding.

What We’re Looking For We’re seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Experience
    6 months to 1 year of experience in maintenance, trades, or similar fields.
  • Right to Work in Ireland
    Legal eligibility to work in Ireland, with successful Garda Vetting clearance.
  • References
    Five years of work references to verify your experience.
  • Team Player
    Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills
    A proactive attitude with the ability to assess issues, propose solutions, and complete the work to high standards.
  • Hygiene and Safety
    A commitment to following all Health & Safety regulations and infection control policies.
