Catering Assistant – Westmeath | Healthcare Catering Job

We are recruiting a Catering Assistant for a well-established healthcare facility in Westmeath, supporting Kitchen, Dining Area and Canteen services. This is a key healthcare catering role, helping deliver safe, nutritious meals to patients and maintaining high standards across food service areas. It is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in hospital catering, healthcare food service, or high-volume catering environments across the Midlands.

As part of the clinical catering team, you will assist with meal service, pantry organisation, hygiene duties and patient mealtime support, ensuring the smooth delivery of essential services in a busy healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and serve meals and beverages in line with dietary guidelines and healthcare food service standards
Maintain excellent hygiene across kitchens, canteen areas and food preparation stations
Follow HACCP procedures, food safety standards and infection control protocols at all times
Store, label and rotate food safely to ensure freshness and minimise waste
Support canteen service and provide respectful assistance to patients during mealtimes
Keep kitchen and canteen pantries stocked, organised and ready for daily service
Follow correct waste management and recycling procedures
Work collaboratively with catering teams to deliver efficient, safe and reliable food service

Requirements

6–12 months’ experience in catering or high-volume kitchens (experience in healthcare catering or hospital kitchens is an advantage)
Understanding of HACCP, food safety and hygiene requirements
Legal right to work in Ireland and ability to complete Garda Vetting
Ability to provide five years of verifiable employment references
Strong communication, reliability and teamwork skills
Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and Bank Holidays

Salary & Benefits

€17.53 per hour
Double Pay on Sundays and Bank Holidays
Full-time daytime hours, typically 7:00am–6:30pm, rostered 5 days over 7
